Lewis Hamilton Says He’s ‘Far From Finished’ Amid Retirement Speculation
Seven-time F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton says he has no plans to stop racing in the sport and stresses he will “be here for quite some time.”
The Brit’s first season driving for Ferrari raised question marks about whether the Stevenage-born driver is able to reach his previous heights.
Hamilton has now confirmed for the first time that he is still under contract at the Scuderia going into 2027.
The 41-year-old said: “Everything is 100% clear to me. I am still focused, still motivated, still love what I do with all my heart. I am going to be here for quite some time.
“There are a lot of people who are trying to retire me and that is not even in my thoughts. I’m already thinking about what will be next and planning for the next five years. I still plan to be here for quite some time.”
His comments about the length of time he sees himself in F1 would keep him in the sport until after his 45th birthday.
It’s extremely rare that drivers stay in F1 for that long, although Hamilton’s former teammate and championship rival Fernando Alonso turns 45 at the mid-point of this season.
The Spaniard’s Aston Martin deal expires at the end of the season, but there is speculation that he may extend his stay at the British team. Aston Martin have suffered a turgid start to the campaign and are yet to score a point alongside newcomers Cadillac.
This season has been a brighter start for Hamilton, trailing his teammate Charles Leclerc by just eight points after four race weekends. Despite occupying second in the constructors’ standings, they do find themselves 70 points behind leaders Mercedes after an incredible start from teenage sensation Kimi Antonelli and British teammate George Russell.
Leclerc is 4-2 ahead across all six qualifying sessions this season, including sprint events in China and Miami. The Monegasque has an average pace advantage of just 0.081 seconds.
