Wales are six time champions of the highly prestigious Guinness Six Nations, and they are set to welcome Scotland, led by their Head Coach Gregor Townsend, at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff for what is a much anticipated contest between two fierce rivals in the 2026 Six Nations Championship.
This contest will be taking place at the heart of the Welsh Capital on Saturday 21st February 2026, with the game itself set to get underway at 16:40 that afternoon.
Fans will be attending this game in their thousands, and with this not only being a match between two rivals, but also a contest as part of the 2026 Guinness Six Nations Championship, all in attendance are in for what promises to be an enthralling and competitive encounter. The atmosphere is also set to be sensational to boot.
Wales will be looking to improve on their 2025 Six Nations campaign, and they will be able to gain momentum and confidence, which would most certainly come with a victory against rivals Scotland. Wales’ Head Coach for the most recent Championship was Warren Gatland, but he has of course since left, with Matt Sherratt then being the interim Head Coach of the team. Steve Tandy was then appointed as Wales boss on a permanent basis on Monday 21st July, with his tenure getting underway on 1st November 2025.
Overall, these two nations have gone head to head in a competitive fixture on a grand total of 131 times, and it is indeed Wales who have the superior number of victories with 75, and they have 22 more victories so far in this fixture against Scotland who have 53 wins to their name against Wales so far.
Wales and Scotland first met in what was a competitive fixture back on 8th January 1883 in what was a victory for the latter in an 1883 Home Nations Championship contest at Raeburn Place in Edinburgh. Wales’ first victory against their rivals was in the 1888 Home Nations Championship on 4th February of that year in what was a contest that took place at Rodney Parade in Newport.
These two rivals last met in the 2025 Six Nations Championship, where it was Scotland who emerged as the winners on this occasion, beating Wales 35 – 29 at Murrayfield in Edinburgh on 8th March that year.
Wales’ most recent triumph over their rivals took place in Cardiff on 12th February 2022 at that year’s Guinness Six Nations Championship. On that occasion, it was to be a tight and tense 20 – 17 victory in the heart of the Welsh Capital. This was a second win in a row after also beating Scotland 24 – 25 at the 2021 Six Nations Championship at Murrayfield.
