Arsenal, who are currently led by their Spanish Head Coach Mikel Arteta, are going to be coming face to face with Kasper Hjulmand’s Bayer Leverkusen side at the iconic Emirates Stadium in North London in the second leg of their much-anticipated Round of 16 tie in the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League. These two sides are set to meet in the English Capital in March 2026.

The Gunners will, of course, be targeting victory as they look to advance to the Quarter Finals and beyond as they look to be the club that goes on to secure this historic and very prestigious trophy in the Hungarian city of Budapest in May 2026. This would help Arteta’s side build further momentum going into the rest of their European campaign.

In the League Phase, Arsenal were perfect, winning all five of their games. They were able to get the better of the likes of Athletic Club (2 – 0), Olympiacos (2 – 0), Atletico Madrid (4 – 0), Slavia Praha (3 – 0), Bayern Munich (3 – 1), Club Brugge (3 – 0), Inter Milan (3 – 1), and finally Kairat Almaty (3 – 2).

This, of course, meant that the Gunners would end up with a top eight finish, with them sitting in 1st place after all eight games had been played ahead of the Round of 16.

Moving on to their opponents for the Round of 16, Bayer Leverkusen, Kasper Hjulmand’s side settled for what was a 16th place finish in the League Phase after winning 3, drawing 3, and losing 2 of their games.

Leverkusen got the better of Benfica (1 – 0), Manchester City (2 – 0), and Villarreal (2 – 0). Then, in the Knock Out Play-Off Round, they got a 2 – 0 victory in Piraeus against Greek Giants Olympiacos before a 0 – 0 draw in Germany was enough to send them through as comfortable winners on aggregate.

Arsenal have faced Bayer Leverkusen twice previously, beating them 4 – 1 at the Emirates Stadium in what was a Group D match against the German Giants back in the 2001/02 season. Robert Pires (5’), Thierry Henry (7’), Patrick Vieira (48’), and Dennis Bergkamp (83’) all scored for the Gunners in this game, who were led by Arsene Wenger at the time.
