Aston Villa, who are currently led by their Spanish Head Coach Unai Emery, are to come face to face with Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United in what is an all Premier League tie in the Fourth Round of the 2025/26 FA Cup. The Villans will be hoping to be victorious at Villa Park as they look to take a step closer to the Final at Wembley in May 2026 with a victory here against the Magpies.
As of the time of writing, Villa remain one of the most successful clubs in the history of the world’s oldest domestic cup competition, having won it on 7 occasions so far, joint with the Manchester City, with only Tottenham Hotspur (8), Liverpool (8), Chelsea (8), Manchester United (13), and Arsenal (14), having won it more than Villa.
Starting with Villa, their first ever triumph in the FA Cup came all the way back in 1887 when they beat West Brom 2 – 0 in the Final. This was then followed by further triumphs in 1895 (1 – 0 vs. West Brom), 1897 (3 – 2 vs. Everton), 1905 (2 – 0 vs. Newcastle United), 1913 (1 – 0 vs. Sunderland), and in 1920, beating Huddersfield Town 1 – 0 thanks to a winning goal from William Kirton in extra time (100’) at Stamford Bridge in London.
The most recent FA Cup Final triumph for the Villans was in 1957 at Wembley, with them beating Manchester United 2 – 1 thanks to a brace from Peter McParland (68’, 73’), whilst the only goal of the game for United came from Tommy Taylor (83’).
Moving on to Newcastle, they too have won the FA Cup on a number of occasions, having done so six times in their history so far. Their maiden triumph was back in 1910, when they were 2 – 0 winners in a replay against Barnsley at Goodison Park.
The Magpies then followed this with further wins in 1924 (2 – 0 vs. Aston Villa), 1932 (2 – 1 vs. Arsenal), 1951 (2 – 0 vs. Blackpool), and in 1952, when they beat Arsenal 1 – 0 thanks to a winning goal in the second half from George Robledo (84’).
Newcastle’s most recent FA Cup Final victory came back in 1955 at the iconic Wembley Stadium when they were able to emerge as 3 – 1 winners against Manchester City thanks to the goals of Jackie Milburn (1’), Bobby Mitchell (52’), and George Hannah (59’). City scored their only goal through Robert Johnstone just before the half-time break (45’).
The last time that these two clubs faced each other in the FA Cup was back in what was a Third Round Replay back on 17th January 2001 at Villa Park. It was a 1 – 0 victory on the day for the Villa, with the winning goal being scored on the day by Darius Vassell early in the second half of this game (50’).
In the Third Round of the 2025/26 FA Cup, Villa were up against Spurs away from home at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Unai Emery’s side were able to emerge as deserved 2 – 1 winners thanks to the goals of Emiliano Buendia (22’) and Morgan Rogers (45+3’), whilst Wilson Odobert scored the only goal of the game for the home side early on in the second half of this game (54’).
As for Newcastle, they were 7 – 6 winners on penalties against AFC Bournemouth in the Third Round at St. James’s Park following what was a thrilling 3 – 3 draw in the North East. Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side were able to score through Harvey Barnes (50’, 118’) and Anthony Gordon (90+5’ – Penalty), whilst Andoni Iraola’s Cherries were able to score through Alex Scott (62’), David Brooks (68’), and Marcus Tavernier (120+2’).
All eyes will be on who will be victorious in this Fourth Round tie in the 2025/26 FA Cup at the aforementioned Villa Park, with the Villans looking to win some more silverware this season.
