Chelsea, currently led by their Italian Head Coach Enzo Maresca, are set to face Arsenal or Crystal Palace in the semi-finals of the 2025/26 Carabao Cup, with the first leg of this high-profile tie scheduled for January 2026 at the iconic and historic Stamford Bridge. The Blues will be looking to take a step closer to the Final.
If it is Chelsea who go on to win this season’s competition, they will be lifting the trophy for what would be the sixth time in their illustrious, trophy-laden history. Only Manchester United (6), Manchester City (8), and Liverpool (10) have won this historic trophy more times than the West London side so far.
The first-ever win for the Blues in the final of this competition came all the way back in the 1964/65 season, when they were able to beat Leicester City 3 – 2 on aggregate, back when the final was played over two legs.
All five goals came in the first leg at Stamford Bridge. For Chelsea, it was the likes of Bobby Tambling (33’), Terry Venables (70’ – Penalty), and Eddie McCreadie (81’), whilst the Foxes scored through Colin Appleton (46’) and Jimmy Goodfellow (75’).
This was then followed by further final victories in 1997/98 (2 – 0 vs. Middlesbrough), 2004/05 (3 – 2 vs. Liverpool), and 2006/07 (2 – 1 vs. Arsenal). The most recent win for the Blues in the final of this competition came at Wembley in the 2014/15 season, when they were 2–0 victors against Tottenham Hotspur, scoring through the likes of John Terry (45’) and Diego Costa (56’).
Chelsea began their 2025/26 Carabao Cup campaign in the third round against Lincoln City away from home against the League One outfit at Sincil Bank. It was a 2 – 1 win for the Premier League visitors, who won 2 – 1 through Tyrique George’s (48’) and Facundo Buonanotte’s (50’) goals. Rob Street scored the only goal for Imps that day, with the hosts initially taking the lead late on in the first half (42’).
Next up was fellow Premier League outfit Wolves at Molineux. It was an incredible game that ended with Chelsea just edging it, 4–3 winners, thanks to goals from Andrey Santos (5’), Tyrique George (15’), Estêvão (41’), and Jamie Gittens (89’). Tolu Arokodare (48’) and David Møller Wolfe (73’, 90+1’), who scored for the Old Gold that day.
Then came the Quarter Finals, where League One Cardiff City were the Blues’ opponents away from home in Wales at the Cardiff City Stadium in December 2025. It was a 3 – 1 win with goals from Alejandro Garnacho (57’, 90+3’) and Pedro Neto (82’) for the Blues, with David Turnbull scoring the only goal for the Bluebirds in the second half (75’).
Moving on to Arsenal, they have also won the Carabao Cup, with the Gunners having won it twice to date. They first did so back in the 1986/87 season, when they were 2 – 1 winners against Liverpool thanks to the goals of Charlie Nicholas (30’, 83’). The legendary Ian Rush scored the only goal for the Reds that day (23’), who initially took the lead.
The Gunners’ most recent triumph in this competition came in the 1992/93 season against Sheffield Wednesday, with Paul Merson (20’) and Steve Morrow (68’). John Harkes gave the Owls the lead early in the first half (8’).
Arsenal began their 2025/26 Carabao Cup campaign at Vale Park against League One outfit Port Vale, who they beat 2 – 0 through Eberechi Eze (8’) and Leandro Trossard (86’).
This was then followed by another 2 – 0 win, this time against Brighton in the Fourth Round, with the goal scorers on this occasion for the Gunners being Ethan Nwaneri (57’) and Bukayo Saka (76’) in the second half at the Emirates Stadium.
The Quarter Finals saw the Gunners drawn against Crystal Palace.
We now move on to Oliver Glasner’s Crystal Palace side, who have so far never won the Carabao Cup in their history, with the furthest that they have reached being the Semi Finals, which they have done so on four occasions, doing so in 1992/93, 1994/95, 2000/01, and most recently in 2011/12, where they lost to Arsenal (1992/93), Liverpool (twice – 1995 & 2001), and Cardiff City (2011/12).
The Eagles began their 2025/26 Carabao Cup journey in the third round against Championship Club Millwall, who they beat 4 – 2 on penalties after they drew 1 – 1 after extra time, after Chris Richards (72’) and Ryan Leonard (90+1’) scored for their respective sides.
Next up was Liverpool at Anfield in the Fourth Round, winning in style 3 – 0 on Merseyside following the goals of Ismaila Sarr (41’, 45’) and Yeremy Pino (88’). Palace were drawn against Chelsea in the Quarter Finals.
All eyes will be on who will emerge victorious from the first leg of this semi-final tie in the 2025/26 Carabao Cup at the aforementioned Stamford Bridge, with the Blues looking to take a step closer to reaching the Final at Wembley this season.
