Premier League: Assessing Spurs’ first five games
Ahead of the start of Spurs’ first full season under the stewardship of Head Coach Thomas Frank, here we take a look ahead at their first five games of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
There is plenty of excitement amongst all associated with Spurs ahead of the start of the 2025/26 season, the first full campaign under the stewardship of their new, Dutch Head Coach Thomas Frank, who took charge following the departure of Ange Postecoglou back on Thursday 12th June 2025.
The North London club will be looking to secure European Football once again, with them targeting a top seven finish, whilst they could even push for a place in the UEFA Champions League for the second season running.
They qualified for the 2025/26 competition last season after beating Manchester United 1 – 0 in the 2025 UEFA Europa League Final. Here, we are going to take a look ahead at the first five matches of Spurs’ 2025/26 Premier League campaign.
Game One: Spurs vs. Burnley (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium) – Saturday 16th August 2025
The first game of Spurs’ 2025/26 Premier League season will see them take on a newly promoted Burnley side led by their English Head Coach Scott Parker at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which is located in the heart of North London on Saturday 16th August 2025.
The two clubs have met frequently in the top flight of English Football over recent years, and the last time that they came face to face in a league game was back on Saturday 11th May 2025 at the aforementioned Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It was to be a 2 – 1 triumph for the Lilywhites in the end. They scored their goals through the likes of Pedro Porro (32’) and Micky van de Ven (82’), whilst Burnley scored their only goal of the game through their Danish forward Jacob Bruun Larsen in the early stages of the first half (25’).
Optimism is high amongst Spurs fans that they can get their 2025/26 Premier League campaign off to the best start possible with a victory against the Clarets.
Game Two: Manchester City vs. Spurs (Etihad Stadium) – Saturday 23rd August 2025
Next up for Spurs is a very high profile contest against title contenders Manchester City away from home at the Etihad Stadium. This game between these sides, led by Thomas Frank and Pep Guardiola respectively, will take place on Saturday 23rd August 2025.
Games between these two clubs have been thrilling and highly competitive in the Premier League and other competitions over recent years. The last time that Tottenham were able to beat City in the league was back on Saturday 23rd November 2024 at the Etihad Stadium.
It was an emphatic and ruthless 4 – 0 triumph for Spurs, who were able to score their goals on that day thanks to the likes of James Maddison (13’, 20’), Pedro Porro (52’), and Brennan Johnson (90+3’), the latter of which would go on to score the winning goal in Spurs’ 2025 UEFA Europa League Final win in Bilbao against fellow Premier League heavyweight Manchester United in May 2025.
Game Three: Spurs vs. Bournemouth (Tottenham Hotspur Stadium) – Saturday 30th August 2025
The game that will follow the City game will see Frank’s Spurs take on a Bournemouth side who are currently led by their Spanish Head Coach Andoni Iraola at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, which is located in the heart of North London. The game itself will take place on Saturday 30th August 2025.
Both of these sides look to play attractive and entertaining football under the stewardship of their respective Head Coaches, and so this should make for an enthralling game between these two clubs when they meet in the English Capital.
The last time that these two clubs came face to face in the Premier League was back on Sunday 9th March 2025. On this occasion, it was to be a competitive 2 – 2 draw at home against the Cherries, with Tottenham Hotspur able to score their goals through the likes of Pape Matar Sarr (67’) and Son Heung-Min, with the latter scoring his goal from the penalty spot late on in the second half (84’). Meanwhile, Bournemouth scored their two goals through the likes of Marcus Tavernier (42’) and Evanilson (65’), either side of the half time break.
Game Four: West Ham United vs. Spurs (London Stadium) – Saturday 13th September 2025
The fourth game of Tottenham’s 2025/26 Premier League season will see them take on their London rivals, West Ham United, away from home at the London Stadium, which is located in East London. This game will be taking place on the evening of Saturday 13th September 2025.
It should be a well fought and exciting game between these two local rivals who are going to be battling not only for possession of the win and the three points, but they will also be looking to take home the bragging rights with a derby victory. The last time that Tottenham were victorious against the Hammers was in a Premier League game back on Saturday 19th October 2024 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
It was an emphatic and ruthless 4 – 1 victory for Tottenham Hotspur, who were able to score their goals through the likes of Dejan Kulusevski (36’), Yves Bissouma (52’), Son Heung-Min (60’), as well as an own goal from West Ham Goalkeeper Alphonse Areola (55’).
They were able to score all but one of their goals in the second half. West Ham scored their goal through Mohammed Kudus (18’), who has since signed for Spurs in the 2025 Summer Transfer Window for a rumoured transfer fee of £54.5 million.
Game Five: Brighton vs. Spurs (Amex Stadium) – Saturday 20th September 2025
Finally, the fifth game of Spurs’ 2025/26 Premier League season will see them make another trip across the country in an away game against Fabian Hurzeler’s Brighton & Hove Albion outfit on the South Coast at the Seagulls’ Amex Stadium. The game will be taking place on the afternoon of Saturday 20th September 2025.
It is set to be a competitive game between these two sides, with both of them able to play some attractive and enthralling football with it set to be a thrilling and competitive game between these two teams.
The last time that Spurs were victorious against the Seagulls was when they were able to beat Brighton 2 – 1 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in North London back on Saturday 10th February 2024.
The goals for Tottenham Hotspur were scored by the likes of Pape Matar Sarr (61’) and Brennan Johnson (90+6’), with the latter scoring their goal that turned out to be the winner deep into stoppage time in the second half. The only goal that was scored by Fabian Hurzeler’s Seagulls side was their now former German creative midfielder, Pascal Gross, early on in the first half (17’).
Excitement and anticipation are both building rapidly ahead of the start of the 2025/26 Premier League season, which is about to get underway, and all eyes will be on Thomas Frank’s first full season in charge of the North London Club.
