The prize money on offer for this year’s event stands at no less than £4.1 million for the winners of each of the 6 races across the afternoon.

The highly prestigious QIPCO British Champions Day is set to make its long-awaited return to the historic and iconic Ascot Racecourse imminently. This year’s event will be taking place this weekend on Saturday 19th October 2024.

It is amongst the richest race meetings in the country at the moment, with total prize money for the winners standing at an incredible £4.1 million for 2024. There will be six races, which will be as follows: The QIPCO British Champions Long Distance Cup (13:20), the QIPCO British Champions Sprint Stakes (13:55), the QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes (14:35), the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (15:15), the QIPCO Champion Stakes (15:55), and the Balmoral Handicap (16:35).

Here, we are going to be taking a look at the races at this year’s QIPCO British Champions Day that offer the most prize money for the winner.

3 – Champions Sprint Stakes and Fillies & Mares Stakes (£500,000)

We start this list with the 2024 renewal of the Champions Sprint Stakes and the Fillies & Mares Stakes, which are worth £500,000 each in terms of prize money for the winner.

The field for this year’s race is made up of 20 runners in total, and they are as follows: Kinross, Montassib, Kind Of Blue, Mill Stream, Unequal Love, Audience, Swingalong, Beauvatier, Elite Status, Flora Of Bermuda, James’s Delight, Spycatcher, Art Power, Bucanero Fuerte, Annaf, Shartash, Shouldvebeenaring, Vadream, Moss Tucker, and Vafortino.

The most recent winner was Art Power in 2023, who was ridden to victory by Jockey David Allan. Art Power will be looking for a second consecutive victory in this year’s race. 2022 winner and pre-race favourite Kinross came in second place, whilst Spycatcher came in third.

Moving on to the 2024 Fillies & Mares Stakes, the field for the latest running of the race will see 14 horses and jockeys compete for the win. The field is as follows: Kalpana, Tiffany, Time Lock, Content, Quantanamera, Grateful, Queen Of The Pride, Village Voice, Wingspan, Doha, War Chimes, Sumiha, Thunder Roll, and Sea Theme.

It was Sam James, on board Poptronic, who won the 2023 Fillies & Mares Stakes at Ascot Racecourse, fending off competition from Rossa Ryan’s Bluestocking and Ryan Moore’s Jackie Oh, who came in second and third place in the end.

2 – Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (£1.15million)

We now move on to the race with the second most prize money on offer at British Champions Day this year – the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes. More than £1.15 million (£1,156,250 to be exact!) is on offer for whoever gets across the line in pole position at the end of the latest chapter in the history of this historic race. This is also the richest mile race in Europe.

A total of 13 runners will be taking part in the 2024 race, and they are as follows: Charyn, Tamfana, Facteur Cheval, Metropolitan, Henry Longfellow, Prague, Quddwah, Checkandchallenge, Sirona, Dancing Gemini, Ice Max, Poker Face, and Lord Massusus.

As for the most recent winner, it was Big Rock, ridden by Aurélien Lemaitre, who came out on top in the end, with the aforementioned Facteur Cheval coming in second place, whilst Tahiyra rounded off the top three in this race in third.

1 – Champion Stakes (£1.3 million)

We now move on to the richest race being run at the 2024 QIPCO British Champions Day at the incredible Ascot Racecourse, which is going to be the highly prestigious Champion Stakes. The prize money on offer for the winner is no less than £1.3 million, all eyes will be on the enthralling racing as all those in attendance eagerly await to find out who will come out on top this year.

The field, made up of 12 horses and jockeys, is going to be as follows: Economics, Calandagan, Los Angeles, Iresine, King’s Gambit, Anmaat, Royal Rhyme, Continuous, Nashwa, Persica, See The Fire, and Novus.

Frankie Dettori rode King Of Steel to victory in the most recent running of the Champion Stakes back in 2023, fending off some stern competition from the likes of Via Sistina (ridden by Oisin Murphy) and Horizon Dore (ridden by Mickael Barzalona), who had to settle for the other two spots in the race’s top three, coming in second and third place respectively in the end.
