Aston Villa Football Club – 2025/26 Premier League

Aston Villa’s fortunes have turned around significantly following the appointment of Unai Emery in November 2022, with the club going to finish in 7th place to secure European football for the first time in more than a decade by the end of 2022/23. This momentum continued into Emery’s first full season in charge in 2023/24, and Villa got victories against the likes of Manchester City (1 – 0), Spurs (2 – 1), West Ham United (4 – 1) and Brighton (6 – 1). Emery’s 50th game in charge was the win against Man City. Signings such as Pau Torres, Alex Moreno, and Moussa Diaby have significantly impacted Aston Villa’s fortunes.

Aston Villa ended up with a superb 4th place finish after they accumulated 68 points from their 38 matches in the 2023/24 season, securing qualification for the highly coveted UEFA Champions League. They got 20 wins, 8 draws and 10 defeats.

In the 2023/24 UEFA Europa Conference League, they were able to beat Zrinjski Mostar, Legia Warsaw, AZ Alkmaar, Ajax, and Lille. However, they were knocked out over two legs in the semi-finals by the eventual winners, Olympiacos.

Then in the 2024/25 season, Aston Villa enjoyed another successful campaign under the stewardship of their Spanish Head Coach. In the Premier League, they were able to accumulate 66 points from their 38 matches to finish in 6th place with 66 points, which was indeed enough to secure qualification for the 2025/26 UEFA Europa League.

Last season in the Premier League, the Villans had some standout victories against the likes of Newcastle United (4 – 1), Brighton (3 – 0), Spurs (2 – 0), Bournemouth (1 – 0), Nottingham Forest (2 – 1), and Chelsea (2 – 1).

In the UEFA Champions League, Villa did very well, reaching the Quarter Finals where they were narrowly knocked out 5 – 4 on aggregate by French Champions PSG – and Unai Emery and his team did beat the Parisian Giants 3 – 2 in the second leg at Villa Park. There were also league phase victories against the likes of Celtic (4 – 2), RB Leipzig (3 – 2), and Bayern Munich, who they were able to beat 1 – 0, just like they did in the 1982 European Cup Final.

In the 2025/26 season, Unai Emery’s Aston Villa will be competing in the Premier League, the UEFA Europa League, the Carabao Cup, and the FA Cup.

Aston Villa Transfers

Turkish defender Yasin Ozcan joined from Kasimpasa following a completed deal in January for a rumoured fee of around £7 million. They have also signed Dutch Goalkeeper Marco Bizot from French Ligue 1 club Stade Brestois for an undisclosed fee. Harvey Elliott joined on loan from Liverpool with an option to buy, whilst fellow Englishman Jadon Sancho also joined Villa on loan in the summer window.

Forward Evann Guessand joined from French Ligue 1 Club OGC Nice for a rumoured transfer fee of £26 million, whilst Swedish international defender Victor Lindelöf also joined, signing on a free transfer after leaving Manchester United earlier on in the summer window.
