Kerdos set for Royal Ascot

Kerdos, winner of the Temple Stakes, is set to take part in the 2024 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot this year.

With just under three weeks to go until the enthralling action at Royal Ascot 2024 gets underway at the historic Ascot Racecourse, excitement and anticipation are building for what are set to be 5 days of thrilling racing from Tuesday 18th to Saturday 22nd June 2024.

More than 30 races are set to grace the track, with some of the most famous horses, trainers, and jockeys going head to head to win some of the most prestigious races in the sport, including the Ascot Gold Cup, the St James’s Palace Stakes, the Prince of Wales’s Stakes and the Platinum Jubilee Stakes.

Aidan O’Brien is currently the holder of the record of having the most wins at Royal Ascot of any other trainer with a total of 85 wins, having surpassed Sir Michael Stoute’s original record of 82 at Ascot last year. He will be looking to add to this incredible number of victories over the course of the racing this year.

As for jockeys, the iconic Lester Piggott currently holds the record for all-time wins of any other jockey to date with no less than 116 wins in all. Over the course of his career, Piggott won the Coronation Stakes 5 times, the Ascot Gold Cup 11 times, and also the King’s Stand Stakes (now the King Charles III Stakes) 7 times in all.

Frankie Dettori has the next most with 81, whilst Ryan Moore’s total of 79 puts him third on the all-time list as things currently stand.

Moving on to 2024’s Royal Ascot, Kerdos is amongst the horses that are set to take part in at least one of the races taking place this year.

In his most recent race, Kerdos was victorious in the Betfred Temple Stakes at Haydock Park Racecourse on Saturday 25th May 2024. Jockey Richard Kingscote managed to ride Kerdos to this win ahead of competition from the likes of Sean Kirrane’s Live In The Dream and Callum Shepherd’s Seven Questions, who came in second and third place finish respectively on the day.

The margin of victory in the end saw Kerdos end up finishing the race a total of two and a quarter lengths ahead of runner-up Seven Questions.

Now, following this victory, the 2024 King Charles III Stakes at Royal Ascot is now being targeted by Trainer Clive Cox. This is what Cox had to say (via Sporting “I was really pleased but it was no surprise, we always believed he could perform at this level, especially after the way he won the Beverley Bullet last year,” said Cox.

“He’s a horse that normally takes a couple of runs to get into full flight and I was really pleased that he managed in that ground, but it shows he’s versatile as it was very quick when he won the Beverley Bullet, so we were very happy.

“Most definitely it will be the King Charles III Stakes now and we’ll sleep easy knowing he has won on both types of ground, which is always a relief.”

Clive Cox has previous in this race, having won the 2016 King Charles III Stakes with Profitable in 2016. Cox will be looking to add a second win in this race in 2024.

With the 2024 renewal of the iconic and illustrious Royal Ascot underway in a matter of weeks at Ascot Racecourse, excitement, and anticipation are certainly on the rise amongst horse racing fans.
